( KTRS ) MSD crews are at the site of a sewage overflow that occurred at a pump station on the Bridgeton landfill property, which is owned and operated by Metropolitan Sewer District.

Tuesday afternoon a MSD pump station technician was inspecting the site and discovered that the pump station was not operating. This Pump Station located on the property of the Bridgeton Landfill takes the sewage from Bridgeton’s pre-treatment facility and puts into a force main that eventually leads to the Bissell Pointe Wastewater Treatment Plant located along the Mississippi River.

While the pump station was not operating about 11 thousand gallons of sewage overflowed from manhole into a contained ditch on the Bridgeton Landfill property.

It is not yet known at this time how long the Bridgeton Pump Station has not been operating.

Officials say there is no immediate threat to public health or safety, the sewage is contained on Bridgeton Landfill private property.
