New Initiative To Help Underprivileged Kids Learn About Local Businesses

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  The manager for Cedric the Entertainer and his wife are teaming up with the ‘”St. Louis Business Journal” to help area kids.   Eric Rhone and his wife Angela partnered with the “St. Louis Business Journal” to create “Journal For Juniors,” a six-week program for underprivileged youth to learn about the local business world.

Rhone explains how the program works: “The teachers of these students allow the students to pick an article from the “St. Louis Business Journal” and over the course of the six weeks, they study these articles, study the business owners, look at their spread sheets, their balance sheets and really do a forensic analysis on several businesses.”

Ellen Sherberg, publisher for the “St. Louis Business Journal,” said kids have really been receptive to this program.  “You can hardly pull the kids away from their conversations. I think these kids are hungry for advice, for adult role models, for leadership. They seem to be eating this up.”

About 70 students from Soldan and Roosevelt High Schools just completed the first “Journal for Juniors” program. Eric and Angela Rhone hope to expand the program next year to the Normandy and Riverview Gardens School Districts.

The funding for the “Journal For Juniors” program provided by the Rhones.
