Prosecutor: no charges against officer who shot and killed VonDerrit Myers Jr.

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – Prosecutors say they are not filing charges against the officer who shot and killed VonDerrit Myers Jr last year.

Officer Jason Flanery was off-duty and working as a private patrolman in the Shaw neighborhood on October 8 when he says a group of young men started running as soon as they saw the security car. Flanery chased the group and that is when police say Myers shot at the officer before Flanery returned fire, hitting and killing Myers.

Prosecutor Jennifer Joyce released a statement Monday saying that ballistic evidence and witness statements did not disprove¬†the officer’s version of events.

Protesters took the streets after Myers was shot–some in the crowd vandalized police cars and threw rocks through the windows of one business and a home.
