Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO  (KTRS)   The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

On Monday morning, Sergeant Peggy Vassallo died after being struck by a car in Florissant. Police say Vassallo was involved in a minor accident on Lindbergh near Old Jamestown Road. After Vassallo exited her vehicle and was talking with the other driver, she was struck by another vehicle. Police say the driver stopped and has cooperated with the investigation.

Meanwhile, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger released this statement in response to Vassallo’s death:

“I offer my condolences to Sergeant Peggy Vassallo’s family, friends, and co-workers. Sgt. Vassallo was a faithful and trusted servant of the Bellefontaine Neighbors community and our county. She dutifully followed her oath to serve and protect. Sgt. Vassallo’s dedication and professionalism will be missed.

My prayers are for the Vassallo family to remain strong during this most difficult time. Thank you to everyone who is cooperating in the investigation of this tragic loss.”

Vassallo was active in the community’s neighborhood watch program and the D.A.R.E. program.
