Ferguson Commission Holds Final Meeting Before Report Deadline

Ferguson, MO  (KTRS)  The Ferguson Commission is in the process of completing their final report.

Wednesday night was the 17th and last meeting of the Commission before the next week’s deadline of that report. The Commission heard from key representatives involved in the Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement.

Cincinnati Police Officer Kathy Herrell spoke about her involvement in that effort. “It’s been a long process. It’s been a lot of work. It has not been easy, but it’s been very well worth it and it’s something we will continue to strive for. I will tell you that I believe very, very much from the bottom of my heart that with what we did today and speaking to people today and coming into in Ferguson and speaking to everyone, that there are goals that can be reached.”

The Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement was enacted in 2002 in response to events similar to those in the St. Louis area.

Co-chair Reverend Starsky Wilson said it must be a united effort to ensure this report doesn’t sit on a shelf. “More than 2200 people have engage in this process. We believe that says this community want to advance the kind of recommendations put forward and we believe that energy means something. So this is up to all of us as a region to carry this forward to make sure this lives, not just in cyber space, but lives in our daily lives, our public policy, lives in our value and commitment to how we live our lives together.”

The fourth graders of Koch Elementary also performed a song to honor their classmate Jamyla Bolden, who was fatally shot last month.

The Ferguson Commission will release their final report on Monday afternoon during a news conference. The Commission also passed a measure to extend their work through December 31st.
