Asian-Americans have leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, they were evenly split in 2014 midterm elections
LAS VEGAS (AP) – As political operatives turn their sights to Nevada they’re also focusing on the nation’s fastest-growing demographic: Asian-Americans.
Asian-Americans comprise 9 percent of Nevada’s population. That could be decisive in the hard-fought caucuses there starting Feb. 20, when Democrats will choose between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Clinton has made wooing Asian-Americans a cornerstone of her Nevada operation. Sanders is trying to catch up.
Republicans are also trying to appeal to the group, which includes recent immigrants, union members, families in the U.S. for generations, and more. Though Asian-Americans have leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, they were evenly split in 2014 midterm elections and most are not registered with either party.
