Auditor Schweich’s chief of staff lobs allegations at John Hancock

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – As discussion continues on the reasons surrounding Auditor’s Tom Schweich suicide, the Chief of Staff for the Missouri Auditor is speaking out about the “whisper campaign” surrounding Schweich’s Jewish heritage.

Schweich believed the state’s Republican Party Chairman, John Hancock, was behind an effort to undermine him to perspective donors. Chief of Staff, Trish Vincent joined Mcgraw Wednesday¬†morning and said Hancock did admit to her that he had indeed spread that misinformation.

“I know that folks are out there saying well who did he say it to. And Mr. Hancock has admitted a number of times that he said it in various ways….I may have, I could have happened,” Vincent said. “It did happen with me. My story has been the same from the day that he told it to me. I haven’t altered it, I haven’t changed it, I have said it might have happened, it could have happened. It did happen.”

Hancock has issued a response, saying Trish Vincent actively campaigned for party chairman. Hancock said Vincent’s claim is untrue and “I have no recollection of discussing Tom’s religion with anyone”. He ended the statement by denying the existence of any whisper campaign.

The full statement from Hancock follows:

“Trish Vincent aggressively campaigned against me for party chairman. Her claim that I acknowledged telling others Tom was Jewish is untrues. As I have said consistently, I have no recollection of discussing Tom’s religion with anyone. It is telling that not one person has come forward with any evidence of an alleged whisper campaign. There was no whisper campaign.”
