Belleville man gets 7 years in prison on meth charges

BELLEVILE, Ill. (AP) – A former Belleville roofer has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to making methamphetamine.

The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1JVwVPc ) reports that a St. Clair County judge accepted the plea and imposed the sentence for 57-year-old Randy J. Cox Jr. on Wednesday. The plea deal with prosecutors will allow him to receive drug treatment in prison.

Cox was charged after police officers in Belleville found evidence of a meth lab while responding to multiple complaints of overcrowding and suspicious activity at a home.

Cox made the news in 2004 after he survived a struggle over an air-powered nail gun that left an inch-and-a-half roofing nail in his skull. He was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital where the nail was removed and was released two days later.
