Bob Gale – writer/producer of the Back to the Future series – joins The Carney Show in-studio, to talk about the 30th Anniversary of the screen classic

The fictional town of Hilldale was based off his life growing up in University City, and due to a scheduling conflict, Michael J. Fox almost never was Marty McFly…

Bob Gale, writer and producer of the Back to the Future trilogy, is a local guy, growing up in University City, and basing much of the script around his hometown, from the lions of U. City, to his old school principal at U. City High School. But the idea for the script came while going through his father’s old yearbooks, and wondering, “What would it be like to go back in time, and meet my dad as a teenager…?”

That question spawned a smash-hit movie, two sequels, and 30-years worth of adoration by young and old alike. From wishing we could go back in time to see what our parents were like, or wanting to go into the future, to test out those hoverboards, the series has captured our imagination, and now here on the 30th Anniversary, it was lovely sitting down with the St. Louis native, to talk about the film, the stories behind the script, and how Michael J. Fox was their first pick…but was the 2nd person to play Marty McFly.
