Civil Rights Groups Press For Minority Participation

ST. LOUIS, MO  –  One of the oldest civil rights organization in the country is joining Freedom Inc. in vowing to empower St. Louis residents to ensure that local minority  participation goals are met regarding the demolition of the old Carter Carburetor plant in north St. Louis city. The building is owned by ACF Industries.

During a community meeting on Tuesday, C.O.R.E. president Jesse Lofton expressed dissatisfaction with the $40 million demolition project saying, “We will not allow ACF to continue its environmental racism by excluding the community on the environmental remediation and demolition of the old Carter Carburetor plant.”

The groups say they are committed to organizing protests in support of their position.
