Educational Leaders Update Governor On Efforts To Help Two Failing School Districts

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  Efforts continue to help two under performing area school districts.

Dozens of educational leaders met with Governor Jay Nixon on Tuesday to provide an update on steps that are being taken to improve educational performance for the school districts of Normandy and Riverview Gardens.

Nixon commended these education leaders for their help. “Educational leaders in this area have stepped up in real and specific ways and marshaled their collective resources to improve opportunities for students in struggling school districts. In doing so they are sending a clear message that this is one region where every child matters and where all students deserve an equal opportunity to succeed.”

Back in June, Nixon announced a partnership by St. Louis-area superintendents to provide resources and assistance to help Normandy and Riverview improve educational standards.

Normandy Superintendent Dr. Charles Pearson says one of the goals for his district is collaborations.
“The collaborative culture is defined as the implementation of the data team process, so data analysis. Decisions that are informed by data, not by opinion. Data driven decision making is what’s going to determine the decisions we do, the things we put in place, how we work with children, how we changed lesson plans, and so forth.”

Meanwhile, Education Plus is offering professional learning opportunities for educators.

The goal of the St. Louis Regional Collaborative For Educational Excellence is to help Normandy and Riverview achieve accreditation by the 2017-2018 school year.
