Execution scheduled for Missouri inmate

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – Despite another snafu with lethal injection, this time in Arizona, the Missouri Supreme Court handed down another execution date.

Leon Taylor is set to be executed September 10. In April, 1994, Taylor murdered a gas station manager and locked the man’s young daughter in a back room with her father’s body.

On Wednesday, Joseph Wood was executed in Arizona by lethal injection, but the process did not go as planned. Wood gasped for air more than 600 times and was not pronounced dead until two hours after the process began. It was the third botched lethal injection in the country in the past six months.

Missouri uses a different drug cocktail for lethal injections than Arizona. But Missouri uses pentobarbital, the same drug administered during an Oklahoma execution where the inmate’s last words were, “I can feel my whole body burning”.

Taylor will be the seventh inmate executed in Missouri this year.
