Ferguson Commission Meeting Held In St. Charles

St. Charles, MO (KTRS)  The 12th meeting of the Ferguson Commission was held in St. Charles Monday night. This was the first time a meeting was held outside of St. Louis City and St. Louis County.

Child well-being was among the topics discussed. Co-chair, Reverend Starsky Wilson explained in his presentation that child well-being occurs when there is both the absence of deficits as well as the presence of assets.

Wilson added, “Twenty-five-percent of the population for the recent face a number of negative trends when it comes to investment into there future, even here in St. Charles. 1735 youth receive mental health services subsidized through public support. One in five youth in Missouri live in poverty. Two in five African-American children still live in poverty in the state.”

St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith, St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann, Dr. Jeff Marion, Superintendent of the St. Charles School District were among the speakers at the Commission Meeting.

Marion said in his talk that strong communities go hand and hand with strong schools.  He added, “I believe that strong communities require strong schools and strong schools require strong communities. It’s a partnership that’s for better or for worse. You can’t separate the two. If you want a good school district, you have to have a good community. If you want a good community, you have to have a good school district.”

The next meeting of the Ferguson Commission is scheduled for June 22nd.
