Flooding Forcing Changes To Some Independence Day Celebrations

St. Charles, MO (KTRS)  Heavy rainfall and high water in the St. Louis area is prompting changes  for some Independence Day celebrations.

In St. Charles, high water on the Missouri River has caused one change to this year’s Riverfest celebration in Frontier Park. The Riverfest carnival will move to Bishop’s Landing. The change is being made because the high water table would prevent safe installation of heavy equipment in Frontier Park.

In Webster Groves, a carnival has been moved from the fields at Memorial Park, which was determined to be too wet. The carnival will be held from Wednesday through Saturday at the school district parking lot.

Flooding on the Mississippi River is forcing Alton city officials to find another venue for their July Fourth holiday weekend fireworks show.

The Alton Telegraph  reports that city leaders are still planning a fireworks show on Friday night, but must relocate it after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said a riverfront site in West Alton isn’t safe after recent heavy rains.

River flooding forced Alton to cancel its July Fourth holiday fireworks show in 2008. Flooding has also prompted officials in nearby Grafton to postpone their planned holiday fireworks display this year.
