Gathering And Silent March Held For Michael Brown Anniversary

Ferguson, MO (KTRS)  Hundreds gathered in Ferguson on Sunday for the one year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The gathering was held outside of Canfield Green Apartment, where the 18-year-old was fatally shot during a confrontation with then Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.  Mike Brown Sr. spoke briefly at the event. There he expressed his gratitude, ” I just want to give all my love to my family, my friends, my new friends, my people, my world.”  Brown declined to take questions from the press.

Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, also spoke at the event. “This year has just been so hard. No accountability. No justice. Police are still killing us. It’s a crisis going on.” Eric Garner died in New York after a police officer put him in what has been described as a chokehold in July of 2014. Garner’s death was ruled as a homicide.

A 4 1/2 minute long moment of silence was held at 11:55 a.m. to signify the time when Brown was shot. The 4 1/2 minutes represents the number of hours Brown’s body was laying in the street while police investigated.

The moment of silence was followed by a silent march to Greater St. Mark’s Church. Activists are calling on a nationwide “Day of Civil Disobedience” for Monday.
