Governor Nixon Speaks On The Upcoming One-Year Anniversary Of Michael Brown’s Death

St. Louis, MO  (KTRS)  The one year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown is just weeks away.

Governor Jay Nixon says he believes progress has been made since that fateful day that sparked civil unrest and great public outcry for change. Nixon added “There has been a great deal of learning about how some of the basic trust had broken down in certain areas and how we had a long journey to build back that trust and move forward.“

Nixon also said stressed the legislation he signed last week for municipal court reform shows significant change. Senate Bill 5 is designed to reform the well-publicized abuses of the municipal court system in the St. Louis region and ensure all municipal courts in the state operate fairly, ethically and transparently.

Nixon said he isn’t concerned that the one-year anniversary will be met with violent protests. ““Folks voices have been heard and we’re trying to prove that the voices have been heard by trying to take direct action. That’s not to mean were done. We’ll certainly be aware of what’s going on, but this does not seem like a moment of danger. I think its a moment of opportunity. “

Nixon came under fire for not deploying more members of the National Guard to the Ferguson area on the night of the Grand Jury announcement.
