ST. LOUIS – (KTRS) Students in the Ferguson-Florrisant School District celebrated the end of the school year with a tea party. The “Communi-Tea” event brought together more than 1,200 McCluer High School students, faculty and staff who took part in a toast of tea to the future.

The social bonding activity is the brainchild of Malaysian artist Norleen Nosri who first brought the tea-sharing event to the city council of Columbia, Mo.

“I just felt like what could I do as an artist to bring something positive into the community,” Nosri said. “To get people involved and get people thinking about [Ferguson] in a positive way.” IMG_4336

Nosri teamed up with St. Louis-based Craft Alliance to help McCluer students craft clay bases and inscribe porcelain cups with their hopes dreams and wishes.

“Our students have endured a lot of traumatic situations, said McCluer Principal Jane Crawford. “Humans get a lot of value out of having some events in their lives to mark when things end, and when a fresh start begins.”
