IDOT Dep. Dir. steps down amid hiring questions

Another high-ranking officials at the Illinois Department of Transportation is stepping down amid questions about the agency’s hiring practices.

IDOT Deputy Director of Finance and Administration Mike Woods resigned Wednesday.  Woods is a former agency personnel chief.

This comes on the heels of Governor Pat Quinn’s replacement of IDOT secretary Ann Schneider Monday.

Also Wednesday, a Quinn spokesman confirmed that the contract with the governor’s legislative liaison Gary Hannig wouldn’t be renewed.  It expires this week. Hannig had been IDOT secretary from 2009 to 2011.

IDOT’s hiring practices have come under recent scrutiny. Chicago anti-patronage campaigner Michael Shakman wants a federal judge to order an investigation into those activities.
