The new fiscal year begins on Wednesday in Illinois
(KTRS/AP) – More than a dozen state agencies will be speaking to Illinois lawmakers about how an inability to reach a budget deal would impact the services they provide.
House Speaker Michael Madigan expects to meet with the officials Tuesday and Wednesday. Democratic lawmakers have been unable to reach a budget compromise with Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. Madigan wants to know how the agencies would operate during a government “shutdown”. Agencies invited include those administering prisons, welfare, and unemployment.
