SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The house Gov. Bruce Rauner and his wife are planning to move into during renovations of the Illinois Executive Mansion is just a bit larger than the carriage house at the governor’s current home.

The State Journal-Register reports the Rauners plan to relocate to the Director’s House at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in January as an estimated $15 million mansion restoration project begins. Illinois Department of Agriculture specifications say the single-story, U-shaped Director’s House is 3,950 square feet with a walk-out basement.

The Executive Mansion’s attached Carriage House is 3,848 square feet.

The fairgrounds residence has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. In contrast, the Executive Mansion is 45,120 square feet on three levels.
The fairgrounds residence and the governor’s residence both have gated fenced for security.
