(KTRS) – The Illinois House will begin discussion on a bill that would prohibit police from using chokeholds and set up rules covering the use of body cameras by officers.

The proposal combines several reforms proposed in the wake of several police shootings, including the shooting in Ferguson. The plan would also require independent review of officer-involved deaths, require annual training for officers, and clarify the state’s eavesdropping law.

Supporters say the bipartisan package is designed to help improve relations between police departments and the community.
