CHICAGO (AP) – Many Illinois consumers are seeing higher prices for health insurance entering the third year of President Barack Obama’s health care law.

Monday is the first day people can see 2016 prices on HealthCare.gov, where thousands of Illinoisan buy coverage. Dave Axene of the Society of Actuaries says some insurers underpriced their plans the last two years and now are raising prices.

Prices depend on where people live. One low-cost “bronze” plan in St. Clair County is up about 8 percent to $190 per month. In St. Clair County, midrange “silver” plans range from $242 per month to $385 per month.
It pays to look at more than premium prices. In general, the lower the monthly premium, the more a consumer would pay out of pocket each time they get care.
