Illinois State Police Investigate Highway Robbery

UNDATED  –  Illinois State Police are investigating an incident on southbound I-55 near Litchfield Tuesday night in which a driver was robbed at gunpoint after pulling off the highway for what he thought was a traffic stop.

Unfortunately, it was three suspects impersonating police with a flashing red light on the dashboard of their SUV.

According to the victim, three black males wearing masks held him at gunpoint and stole approximately $5,500 in cash, as well as other personal items.

At that time the driver was bound in his vehicle with duct tape and the suspects left the scene heading southbound on Interstate 55.

It all happened at about 10:15 Tuesday night. An Illinois trooper was dispatched to a report of a motorist assist and found the driver bound and gagged with duct tape.
