Judge hears arguments on St. Louis minimum wage hike

(KTRS) – A judge is weighing a lawsuit that seeks to block the city of St. Louis from incrementally raising its minimum wage.

Judge Steven Ohmer heard two hours of arguments Tuesday over the lawsuit’s request for a permanent injunction to stop the planned increase. Without the injuction the minimum wage would increase October 15 to $8.25 an hour.

Mayor Francis Slay signed a measure in August that would raise the minimum wage in the city to $11 an hour by 2018. Group, including the Missouri Chamber of Commerce are suing, challenging the legality of St. Louis’ actions and insisting the increase would hurt business.
