Kansas City paper obtains images of text messages between Speaker Diehl and an intern
(KTRS) – House Speaker John Diehl has issued a statement in response to allegations that he exchanged inappropriate text messages with an intern.
Speaker Diehl took full responsibility for his actions and apologized for what he called “poor judgement”. The Speaker also apologized for dragging the intern into this situation. Speaker Diehl and the intern exchanged some messages that were sexually suggestive.
The intern was a part of a program run through Missouri Southern State University. That internship program was shut down suddenly last month with officials citing an undisclosed incident.
The speaker did not make any mention of future political plans other than to say he is getting back to work as the legislative session ends.
EARLIER:The Kansas City Star is reporting that Missouri House Speaker John Diehl was involved in a “sexually charged” relationship with an intern.
The paper uncovered what they say are text messages between Speaker Diehl and the intern–the subject of texts, everything from chatter about meetings to more sexually suggestive messages. Diehl has not issued a comment on the story and the intern said the texts were not real.
The intern was apart of a Missouri Capitol program that was suddenly shut down last month. At the time officials with Missouri Southern State University said the program’s end was the result of an undisclosed incident. University officials said they could not comment further, citing student privacy laws.
Diehl is married and has three children.
