Koster drops suit against Hillsdale over municipal fines

( KTRS ) Attorney General Chris Koster has dismissed a lawsuit against the St. Louis County town of Hillsdale over a law capping the percentage of revenue from traffic fines.

At issue was a law that barred municipalities from getting more than 30 percent of their annual revenue from traffic fines and related court costs. Koster originally sued 17 cities for violating the so-called Macks Creek Law.

The suit had previously been dropped against the other 16 municipalities.

The new law reduces the amount of general revenue a municipality may obtain from traffic violations to 20 percent, but just 12 percent in St. Louis County.
