St. Louis is gearing up for the future.

KPMG, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, announced plans to add 175 information technology jobs in St. Louis within the next three years. Mayor Francis Slay said tech jobs are becoming a major economic driver for the city.

“Each of these organizations recognize that St. Louis has incredible talent,” Mayor Slay said. “KPMG and the others know that they can find, hire and train people right here in St. Louis.”

Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development Mike Downing said this signals a time to start innovating and increasing STEM education at all grade levels.

“We know that’s where the future of work is going to be,” he said. “Things like ‘Project Lead the Way‘ that’s been started by several districts over the years.”

New initiatives are also underway.

“‘Pathways to Prosperity‘ is being initiated by DESE (the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) in Missouri,” said Downing. “A lot of school districts are doing innovative things.
