JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Republican attorney Josh Hawley is running for Missouri attorney general in 2016.

The 35-year-old University of Missouri School of Law associate professor touted a conservative platform during a video announcement Thursday.

Hawley, of Columbia, previously served as a clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Hawley also was part of a team of lawyers in a U.S. Supreme Court case in which Hobby Lobby and other businesses challenged a federal requirement for it to cover contraceptives for employees. Justices ruled corporations can hold religious objections that let them opt out of the birth control requirement.

Hawley faces a likely primary with Republican state Sen. Kurt Schaefer, of Columbia. Democrats Sen. Scott Sifton of Affton and St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman also are running for attorney general.
