SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Some Illinois lawmakers and civil libertarians worry high-tech cameras that can scan thousands of license plates an hour are gathering data that could be used to track the movements of private citizens.

But police officials say the automated license plate readers help solve crimes and enforce traffic laws.
