ST. LOUIS (AP) – A new marketing campaign is underway to promote pride in the two-state St. Louis region nearly a year since the police shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson fueled racial unrest and bruised the area’s image.

Regional political and business leaders from Missouri and Illinois unveiled the multimedia effort Thursday in Forest Park, one of St. Louis’ gems.

The campaign features television, print and radio ads that include St. Louis-area celebrities such as Bob Costas, Joe Buck, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Ozzie Smith and Isaac Bruce.

The effort figuratively deputizes residents of the region to share their positive sentiments about the area in their social networks, or during trips elsewhere. Suggested ideas for that promoting are available online at www.stlouscivicpride.org.
