Marchers Walk 200 Miles Protesting For Illinois Budget

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Protesters have completed a 200-mile Chicago-to-Springfield march in support of a state budget that supports working-class people.
More than a hundred protesters joined the March to Springfield for the final leg to the state Capitol on Tuesday as lawmakers attempt to hash out a budget deal before the session ends Wednesday. The state of Illinois has been without a budget for nearly two years. Marchers want a budget that closes corporate tax loopholes and taxes the wealthy at higher rates.
The statewide group Fair Economy Illinois organized the march. Marchers left Chicago May 15.
The group has its own budget proposal that members say would raise $23 billion to provide universal health care and free college tuition. They also say their plan would fully fund public schools, social services and infrastructure needs.
