McLean County wants Schock to pay $200,000 for election

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – An Illinois county has voted to ask former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock to pay for costs associated with electing his replacement in the 18th District.

WJBC radio reports that the McLean County Board has approved sending a letter to the Peoria Republican asking him to pay $200,000 for the July 7 primary and Sept. 10 election. Schock resigned in March after questions arose about his spending.

A message left for Schock’s attorney wasn’t immediately returned Wednesday. Marshall County previously made a similar move, sending Schock a bill for $76,000 to cover its election costs.

The McLean County board noted that Schock’s congressional campaign committee had $3.3 million on hand when he resigned.
County Board member Mark Johnson says Schock owes the money to taxpayers.
