Normandy, Mo ( KTRS )  – Missouri’s State Board of Education has voted to classify the Normandy school system as unaccredited again.

Board members on Tuesday restored the St. Louis County school district’s classification as failing.

The state board in June 2014 placed it out of the state accreditation system.

That was intended to exempt the district from the state’s transfer law, which requires failing districts to pay tuition if students switch to better-performing schools nearby. That’s meant financial hardship for Normandy.

But a St. Louis County Circuit Court ruling in February invalidated the state board’s earlier decision. That ruling required that they allow students to leave the district, and that the district be labeled as unaccredited.

Tuesday’s State Board of Education decision now officially reclassifies Normandy as unaccredited.
