Missouri Flooding Wreaking More Havoc, Including Another Death

Clay County  (KTRS)  The search is over for a man whose vehicle was swept away by flood waters in Crawford County.

Authorities say the victim’s body was recovered Wednesday morning. His name hasn’t been released. This is the 14th in Missouri death as a result of the recent flooding.

Multiple rescues have been made in Eureka as a result of the devastating flooding. Officials say most of the rescues involved residents trapped in their homes.

One of the rescues involved a man who was trapped with his dog on the roof of their home. Both were successfully brought to safety.

Eureka has issued a voluntary evacuation for areas impacted by flooding.

In nearby Valley Park,  Mayor Michael Pennise ordered residents in one part of town to evacuate by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
He said that the U.S. Army Corps of engineers say they’re confident that the levee built in 2007 will hold, but that the evacuations were done as a precaution.

The Meramec River  is expected to crest Thursday more than 3 feet above its previous record of 40 feet. Forecasters said the Mississippi River in St. Louis is expected to crest Thursday evening at 13 feet above flood stage – six feet below the 1993 record.
