Monitor chosen to oversee Ferguson’s police, court reforms

( KTRS ) U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry has approved the group that will serve as Independent Monitor of the Consent Decree for the City of Ferguson.

Cleveland based law firm, Squire Patton Boggs was chosen out of a pool of four finalists by the City of Ferguson and the Department of Justice.

Officials say the cost, for the monitoring, will not exceed $1.25 million over the first five years or $350,000 for any single year. The group will assess and report on whether the new requirements for Ferguson’s policing and court system, have been implemented.

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III says “Our goal is to continue to work with the Department of Justice and the Independent Monitor over the course of this consent decree to improve our policing practices with the Ferguson Police Department.”
