St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – For the second time in just two months, a woman from the Metro East is accused of faking cancer to solicit donations.

Troy police arrested 25-year-old Melissa Barton on Wednesday. Investigators say that Barton was asking for help to pay for cancer treatments for herself and her son. She set up donation accounts on the websites YouCaring-dot-com and WePay-dot-com. Barton has used the alias names of Melissa Dawn Pruett Barton and Missy Barton Pruett. Please contact police if you think you were deceived by Melissa Barton.

Belleville resident Alissa Jackson was charged with felony theft for claiming she had cancer to receive donations. Jackson allegedly raised $30,000 from her scam.
