I-70 closures downtown delayed for a week

ST. LOUIS -The Missouri Department of Transportation has delayed this weekend's scheduled closure of all lanes of westbound I-70 for a week.
Current plans call for crews to close all lanes of westbound I-70 downtown between the Poplar Street Bridge and Pine Street starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 8, weather permitting.
The department will also close a lane on eastbound I-70 at that time, with full closures of eastbound I-70 for up to 15 minutes.
Crews will be installing girders over the interstate for the new Walnut Street bridge.
The Eads Bridge will also be closed while the interstate is closed to ensure that interstate traffic moves smoothly. All interstate lanes are projected to reopen by noon Sunday, February 9.
This work is part of preparations for the CityArchRiver Park Over the Highway project.

The organization spearheading the effort to revamp the grounds around the Gateway Arch say the project is progressing well.

In it's third "report to the community," presented Tuesday night, CityArchRiver detailed MoDOT's construction time line for the planned "lid" over the I-70 depressed section. The agency says construction will begin this summer.

The finished "park over the highway" will connect the Arch grounds to downtown St. Louis.  Presenters also thanked the audience for passing Proposition P, a sales tax that will be used to help finance the project.

CityArchRiver also released new renderings for the plan to revamp the museum under the Arch.  You can see those images on their website.
