Two south St. Louis schools will be renovated instead of being closed.
St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent Kelvin Adams recommended to the school board Thursday night that Shenandoah and Mann Elementary Schools remain open.
A 2009 study had suggested that both be closed and a single new school be built to replace them. Adams says improvements in enrollment, academics and community support since then influenced his decision.
The proposed renovations would cost about $1.4 million.
