A strip club in East St. Louis could be facing harsh penalties after a fatal shooting over the weekend.
Police say 20-year-old Kenneth Richards was shot and killed in the parking lot of Denese's Place late Saturday night. The club has had its liquor license suspended until the results of a hearing that takes place Wednesday at 2:30 PM. Officials say the hearing could result in more penalties.
Police meanwhile continue their search for an SUV involved in the shooting. The vehicle is described as a white GMC Yukon or Suburban. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477).
St. Louis police say a 9 year old boy who was shot while riding in a car early Wednesday morning has died.
Police say Tyrese Short had been riding in a car with his father, another man and a woman in north St. Louis, when a man in another car shot him. No one else was injured.
The boy was taken to a nearby police station for help. He was rushed to St. Louis Children's Hospital, but died later in the day.
St. Louis Police Captain Michael Sack says investigator suspect that the boy's father or the 22 year old man driving had been the gunman's target. An 18 year old woman was also in the car. Police say it's unclear why the child and his father were out at 3:30 in the morning.
No information has been released about a possible suspect.
Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says the deputy's actions involving 51-year-old Barry Cloninger outside the man's rural Edwardsville home in January were reasonable.
Gibbons says neighbors had called authorities to report the odor of lighter fluid in their home and snowy footprints on their roof, which is easily accessible because the home is built into a hillside. The residents have a wood-burning stove and suspected someone poured the flammable liquid down their chimney.
Gibbons says deputies went to question Cloninger, who refused demands that he drop the shotgun he carried. After being shot by the deputy, Cloninger's body was found behind the home.
The victim, 20 year old Preston Freeman was a north county native who'd been living and training in Salinas, California.
Police say Freeman had been involved in an altercation inside the Escalade Bar and Grill in the 7800 block of Olive before it spilled onto the parking lot. Investigators say Freeman was shot in the chest during a hail of gunfire. His friends drove him to the hospital where he later died.
Three black men were seen fleeing in a maroon Chevy Impala East on Olive. Anyone with information is urged to call University City police at 314-725-2211 ext. 8010 or Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
