ST. LOUIS (AP) - Hair extensions can be pricey, and beauty supply stores in the St. Louis region and elsewhere are increasingly being targeted by thieves.

Several St. Louis stores have been victimized over the past year, often by smash-and-grab thieves who smash a car into a store and get away with extensions.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that extensions made of human hair that hasn't been dyed or permed can run $100 to $250 per pack. They're small and easy to grab and have no codes or serial numbers that can be tracked.

Similar crimes have been reported in places like Las Vegas, Atlanta, Houston and Miami. A shop owner was killed at a Michigan salon in 2011, where 80 hair extensions worth about $10,000 were stolen.

An investigation into another overnight smash and grab burglary is underway.

This time the crime happened in west St. Louis city. Police say that around 4:30 this morning, suspects smashed the front window of the Palomino Lounge in the 5800 block of Delmar. The thieves made off with some liquor, a flat screen TV, and money from the cash register.

No information on the suspects has been released.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are searching for thieves who stole items from a Radio Shack after apparently using a truck to ram the cinder-block back of the store.

The abandoned truck was found nearby.

The crime happened about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Central West End. About $1,000 in merchandise was taken from the store. It was the latest of several smash-and-grab crimes in St. Louis in recent weeks.

It took under a minute for thieves to grab nearly 20,000 dollars worth of jewelry from a Cahokia pawn shop last night.

The crime was caught by surveillance cameras and the video shows an organized group of criminals. The men--all in masks--broke the front window, walked up to a jewelry cabinet, broke the glass, and started grabbing jewelry. Police said the suspects were in and out of the store within 30 seconds and made off with 150 pieces of jewelry worth around $20,000.

The suspects drove off in Chevy Impala.
