KTRS, St. Louis, MO - A Metro-east man is headed to prison connected to a fatal hit-and-run that happened near Cahokia last summer.

Kevin Powell was sentenced to five years in jail and five years of probation after his release. Powell was driving the car that hit and killed 9-year-old Fabian Teson. Fabian was riding his bike when he was hit. He was taken to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in critical condition and died two days later. Water main break shoots water 30 feet into the air

Tuesday, 14 January 2014 15:45 Published in Local News

The frigid temperatures of last week are still causing problems for area residents.

A water main in west St. Louis County broke Tuesday morning and sent a plume of water 30 feet into the area. The main rupture is adjacent to the Bennington Heights Apartment near the Page Avenue Extension. Fox 2 reports that some residents were getting water into their apartment.

The shifting temperatures since last week's storm have cause dozens of water main breaks across the metro area.

Witness: Gunman in NM school shooting was student

Tuesday, 14 January 2014 14:43 Published in National News
ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - A witness says the gunman in a school shooting in the southeastern New Mexico city of Roswell was a student.

The shooter wounded two students at Berrendo Middle School on Tuesday morning before being taken into custody.

Officials at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, say a 14-year-old boy was flown there in critical condition, and a 13-year-old girl was en route in serious condition. Hospital spokesman Eric Finley says information from nurses treating the boy indicates he was the shooter's target.

A student who witnessed the shooting says the shooter was a boy who she thought was being bullied. Eighth grader Odiee Carranza says it happened in the school gym. She says the boy shot the 14-year-old twice in the face, and shot the girl in the arm.

Carranza says the boy then fired a shot into the sky before dropping the gun. A teacher then grabbed him.
