ST. LOUIS (AP) - Fans of St. Louis Cardinals great Stan Musial will get a chance to own a piece of his personal collection - items ranging from game-worn jerseys to championship rings to harmonicas - through an online auction that's now underway.
Musial died in January at age 92, a year after his wife died. The family kept many mementos and donated many others.
Musial's grandson, Brian Musial Schwarze, says Stan the Man's modest home in Ladue, Mo., was filled with items even relatives didn't know existed.
With so much stuff, the family decided to auction some of it off.
The auction of 400 lots of items began Thursday. Heritage Auctions of Dallas is hosting the online auction. Bidding closes Nov. 7 through Nov. 9, depending on the lot.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri is naming its side of a new Mississippi River span the "Stan Musial Memorial Bridge" for the late St. Louis Cardinals great.
But the state might not have the exclusive naming rights. Federal legislation approved by Congress and awaiting action by President Barack Obama names it the "Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge." That name represents a compromise between Missouri lawmakers who wanted to honor Musial and Illinois lawmakers who wanted to honor military veterans.
Governor Jay Nixon signed Missouri's legislation Wednesday. It also names part of a highway for construction worker Andy Gammon, who died while building the new Mississippi River bridge.
Missouri's legislation also names an existing St. Louis bridge for former Congressman William Clay, who won the first of 16 U.S. House terms in 1968.
Local political leaders are it calling an impressive display of bipartisan support and compromise. The U.S. House on Tuesday voted to name the new Interstate-70 bridge over the Mississippi River as the "Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge."
Missouri lawmakers had wanted to name the span after the Cardinal's legend. Illinois lawmakers had wanted to name the bridge to honor veterans. Tuesday's 395-to-2 House vote would do both.
The measure now moves on the U.S. Senate.
For the right price, you can live like a Cardinal great.
The home of Stan "The Man" Musial is on the market. The family of Stan decided it is time to sell his mid-century Ladue home. For under $2 million--$1.8 to be precise--you can walk the same floors as Musial and his wife Lil.
According to the listing the house is over 5,200 square feet with four bedrooms and seven baths. The home is set on three acres of land. Musial was 92 when he died in January.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The man widely hailed as the greatest St. Louis Cardinal of them all will be honored at the team's home opener on Monday.
The Cardinals are starting the season with six road games before hosting Cincinnati in a Monday afternoon game. Before the game the team will honor Stan Musial, the Hall of Famer who died in January at age 92.
The Cardinals said Friday that Musial's four children will unveil an outfield wall marker as part of Opening Day ceremonies that begin at 2:30 p.m. The Budweiser Clydesdales will make their traditional Opening Day march around Busch Stadium, and the Cardinals in the Hall of Fame will circle the ballpark in a motorcade.
