Month-long road closure starts Monday

MoDOT will close Washington Avenue between Memorial Drive and Second Street after rush hour Monday morning.  Transportation officials say the road will be closed for a month.

It's part of the "Park Over the Highway" project that will put a lid over the I-70 depressed section and connect the Arch grounds with downtown St. Louis.

Crews will continue to work around the King Bridge, interstate ramps and surface streets in the area for the rest of the year as the CityArchRiver 2015 project progresses.

Police in the City of St. Louis say a busy stretch of Washington Avenue will be closed Friday night in an effort to fight crime.

Washington Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic from Tucker to 14th Street starting at 10 p.m.  It should reopen around 3 a.m. Saturday.

The closure is part of the Washington Avenue safety initiative.
