A contractor working on the Blanchette Bridge died after an accident Monday morning.

Just before 11 AM, the worker was hit by a large barrel. He died from his injuries. The man has not been identified, but was an employee of Walsh Construction--they were hired to perform the bridge repairs.

Crews were set to close the exit ramp from westbound 70 to southbound Fifth Street for work Monday night, but that project has been postponed.

Authorities say one person is dead after an accident on the Page Extension. The accident happened at Bennington Place. The only vehicle visible on traffic cameras was a pickup truck. No word on the cause of the accident and the victim's name has not been released.

One person is dead after a SUV ran a red light in Berkeley  last night around 9:30.

Missouri Highway Patrol officials say 29 year old Leroy Jennings of St. Louis was southbound on Evergreeen, ran a red light at the intersection and collided with an eastbound car on Airport Road.

A passenger in Jennings sport utility vehicle, 34 year old Lawrence Woods of St. Louis, was seriously hurt and taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital.

The other driver, a 23 year old Brentwood woman suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Around 10 this morning, a car crashed through the front wall of a 72-year-old woman's home. Two passengers in the car were injured, but the homeowner was uninjured. KSDK reports that rescue crews noticed the smell of natural gas and Laclede Gas employees shut off the home's supply.

The home has been deemed uninhabitable by city officials and the woman will have to stay with her daughter while repairs are performed. No word on why the car lost control and hit the house.

   Four adults, two of them coaches with a girls basketball team from St. Louis, are in critical condition after an accident involving the team's van.  

   The crash happened Saturday about 20 miles south of Nashville, Tennessee.  The minivan carrying the St. Louis Lady Monarchs was clipped by another vehicle and then crossed the center line and struck a car.  

   Seven 16 year old girls were injured.  Two small children, ages 1 and 2, were also injured.  All off the children were treated and released from a local hospital.  

   The two coaches and two adults in the oncoming car are hospitalized in critical condition.  Police say none of the injured was wearing a seat belt.  

   The team had been in Tennessee for a basketball tournament.

CHAFFEE, Mo. (AP) — A federal agency has sent investigators to southeast Missouri, where seven people were injured when two cargo trains collided on tracks under a highway overpass, causing the overpass to partially collapse.

Scott County Sheriff's Office Dispatcher Clay Slipis said the collision happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Chaffee when a Union Pacific train hit a Burlington Northern train. Slipis said several cars derailed and hit a pillar of the Highway M overpass, bringing it down. Two cars were on that stretch of road.

Seven people — five in the vehicles and both train conductors — were taken to a hospital. Slipis said all but one was treated and released; the seventh is in good condition.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it's sent a crew to investigate the cause.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - A low-flying military jet from a western Missouri Air Force base clipped several power lines, but officials said no injuries were reported.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the A-10 Thunderbolt military jet from Whiteman Air Force base hit several power lines crossing Stockton Lake on Wednesday afternoon. A-10 Thunderbolts are single-seat, twin-engine attack jets.

Danielle Johnston, spokeswoman for the Air Force Reserve's 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman, said the plane hit the power lines near the unincorporated town of Bona, which is about 30 miles northwest of Springfield. The jet clipped the lines where they cross the southeast arm of Stockton Lake.

Crews have been working to mark the area with buoys to keep boaters away from submerged power lines.

UPDATE: Five people are dead following a single-vehicle accident on I-70 near Vandalia, IL.

The Vandalia Leader-Union reports the fatalities. Police say a van drove off the highway and flipped over. There were at least 14 passengers on board. Some of the people sustained serious injuries and are on their way to St. Louis hospitals.

Emergency crews have closed eastbound 70 near the accident.

   St. Louis police say a bizarre case of road rage left a 43 year old man dead.  

   It began around noon yesterday, when a box truck apparently cut off a Lincoln Navigator on westbound Inerstate 70.  

   Police say the SUV followed the truck to the Union Blvd. exit, ramming the box truck several times.  At the light at Margaretta and Union, the driver of the SUV got out of his vehicle and began hitting the truck with a hammer, striking the driver before jumping onto the truck's hood.  When the truck turned onto Margaretta, the attacking man fell off and was injured.  

   The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.  Police have not yet released his identity.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A St. Louis man is accused of intentionally causing a pre-dawn wreck during a two-vehicle southwestern Illinois chase that ended with a teenager dead.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County charged 27-year-old Donald Friese with first-degree murder in the April 29 death of 18-year-old Mercedes Ferrarie-Troisi of Caseyville.

Illinois State Police have said Friese was driving one of two vehicles involved in a chase with each other. Police say both cars went out of control at a curve in Fairmont City and flipped. Ferrarie-Troisi was ejected and died at the scene. Police said Friese fled the scene.

As of Wednesday afternoon Friese was in custody in Jennings, Mo., on unrelated federal charges.

Bail on the murder count is set at $1 million.

It's not immediately clear if Friese has an attorney.
