Police in Belleville now know the identity of a woman found dead behind a business Tuesday morning. Authorities haven't released her name, but say she was 83 years old and lived about 10 blocks from where she was found.
Robert Holmes, the owner of a local auto shop made the discovery about 10:30 a.m. He called police after finding the woman's body in a snowbank behind his shop in the 1800 block of West Main Street.
The victim had been wearing only pajamas and blood was found on the ground in the area. An autopsy has been performed, but police haven't released her cause of death.
Rock Hill Mayor Daniel DiPlacido is not going to run for reelection.
DiPlacido made the announcement at Tuesday night's city board meeting. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that DiPlacido read a brief statement saying there were a number of reasons for his "difficult decision," but he didn't elaborate on what those reasons were.
The filing deadline for the April election closed earlier in the day, so Alderman Edward Mahan will be the only mayoral candidate on the ballot in Rock Hill.
