ST. LOUIS (AP) - A southwest Missouri woman is dead after another round of torrential downpours caused flash flooding.

McDonald County emergency management director Greg Sweeten says the woman died early Thursday when her car was swept off Missouri Route 90 near the town of Jane, Mo. Sweeten says normally-dry Brush Creek came up suddenly.

The National Weather Service says parts of southwest Missouri got 10 inches of rain overnight. The town of Hollister was especially hard hit, with about 100 buildings damaged. More than two dozen people had to be rescued from homes, mostly mobile homes, in Hollister, which is near Branson in Taney County.

The weather service says more heavy rain is likely for southern Missouri in the coming days.

St Louis police are trying to track down the driver of a hit and run who collided with another car on South Grand.

Investigators say both vehicles were northbound on Grand at Juniata when one of the cars cut into the traffic lane, clipping the other car and sending that vehicle into a light pole and newly installed traffic signal. The car flipped over from the impact. The female driver was not seriously hurt but the car is heavily damaged.

The driver responsible continued driving northbound on Grand and remains at large.

Teens are being targeted in a crack down to enforce seat belt laws in Missouri.

Police say on 66 percent of Missouri teens wear their seat belt when driving or riding in a vehicle. Under the graduated driver's license law, all passengers in a car being driven by someone 16 to 18 years must wear their seat belt. Otherwise, police can pull the driver over and issue a ticket.

Safety officials say eight out of 10 teens killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled. And wearing a seat belt is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
