One dead, two injured in north St. Louis crash

Thursday, 14 March 2013 17:37 Published in Local News
One person is dead and two others injured after a hit-and-run driver crashed into another vehicle in north St. Louis. Police say the suspect was driving a Ford Explorer Thursday afternoon when he first sideswiped a vehicle near Market and 9th. The driver didn't stop however, he continued down I-70, exiting onto Branch street when he ran a stop sign at North Broadway. There's when he T-boned a Pontiac with three people inside. The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passangers were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The Jaws of Life had to be used to rescue the survivors of the crash.
The City of St. Louis Streets Department is now confident they'll have Market Street repaired in time for the big St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday. A water main break around 10:30 last night on Market between 16th and 17th was the cause of major problems. Water began gushing into the intersection just as fans were leaving the Bon Jovi concert at Scottrade last night. The water was shut off around midnight, but Market Street remains closed between 16th and 17th. That's right in front of the downtown Post Office.

Mo. House panel endorses utility legislation

Wednesday, 13 March 2013 13:55 Published in Local News
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri House Utilities Committee has endorsed legislation that would allow electric utilities to seek permission for an infrastructure surcharge. Power companies could ask to levy the surcharge between their formal rate cases before the Public Service Commission. The House committee endorsed the legislation Wednesday after lowering a cap on how much could be collected and adding a requirement that power companies credit customers' electric bills if regulators disallow a cost included in the surcharge. Supporters of allowing the surcharge contend it would help utilities invest in infrastructure improvements and would create jobs. Opponents say it would make it easier to raise electric rates. Similar legislation already has cleared an energy committee in the Missouri Senate.
