Court: Foreclosure lawsuit now moot

Tuesday, 15 October 2013 12:10 Published in Local News

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A Missouri appeals court says a legal dispute over St. Louis County's foreclosure mediation ordinance is moot after a recently enacted state law.

St. Louis County's 2012 ordinance required that lenders give residential borrowers a chance to mediate before their homes are foreclosed. Missouri lawmakers this year approved legislation making real estate loans subject only to state and federal laws. It was aimed at overturning local foreclosure mediation ordinances. Gov. Jay Nixon allowed the law to take effect on Aug. 28.

The Missouri Bankers Association and Jonesburg State Bank had challenged the county's ordinance in court. The Missouri Court of Appeals' Eastern District said Tuesday in its ruling the county has conceded it will not enforce the foreclosure mediation ordinance. The appellate court dismissed the case as moot.

Home invasion prompts lockdown of elementary school

Monday, 14 October 2013 16:38 Published in Local News

The search continues for three home invasion suspects.

Around 11 AM, four suspects attempted to rob a woman and her mother at their Olivette home. Neighbors heard the homeowner screaming and called police. Three of the suspects drove off and a fourth tried to run away. While officers searched for the suspects, the nearby Old Bonhomme Elementary school was placed on lockdown. Officials say it was only a precaution.

Officers caught one suspect and the lockdown was lifted. The remaining three suspects are on the loose.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Pentagon says the remains of two World War II Marines from Louisiana and Missouri will be buried Friday with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery.

Nineteen-year-old Staff Sgt. Thomas Meek of Lisbon, La., and 23-year-old Capt. Henry White, of Kansas City, died when their SBD-4 Dauntless dive bomber crashed in what is now Vanuatu during a night training flight on July 21, 1943.

The plane was reported as crashed on a coral cliff on Mavea Island. An investigation in 1947 did not recover any remains. One last year found human remains, a captain's bars and Meek's military ID tag.

Because no individual identification was possible, the men will be buried in a single casket.
