ALTON, Ill.-- AP -- An Alton attorney is free on bond after being accused of growing marijuana in the basement of a home he owns.

Prosecutors in Madison County on Monday charged 56-year-old Bradford Hunt with two felony counts of unlawful production of marijuana plants and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The (Alton) Telegraph says police investigating a reported burglary at the house found two dozen marijuana plants in the basement, along with equipment used to grow the drug.

Hunt’s home telephone has been disconnected, and calls to his office on Tuesday morning went unanswered. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
