Police identify woman found dead over weekend

Monday, 24 June 2013 15:48 Published in Local News

St. Louis police have identified a young woman found dead over the weekend.

29-year-old Annette Bock was found inside a vacant North City home around 6:30 on Saturday evening. No signs of trauma were visible on her body. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A former southwest Missouri man is serving nine years in prison without parole for an investment scheme that defrauded senior citizens out of nearly $1.2 million.

Federal prosecutors announced Monday that 68-year-old Steven Gwin, formerly of Ozark, was sentenced Friday and ordered to pay $1.17 million in restitution.

Gwin pleaded guilty Aug. 20 to mail fraud and money laundering. Between August 2005 and March 2007, Gwin solicited investments for retirement ventures and conducted seminars for senior citizens to promote the investment programs.

But prosecutors say once individuals invested with Gwin, he used their funds for personal expenses.

Science Center's Exploradome deflated for good

Monday, 24 June 2013 13:31 Published in Local News

It came down with a... whisper.

Unlike demolition, deflation is a little quieter, as witnessed by those who watched the Explorer Dome's 16 year run hosting special exhibits, weddings and parties at the St. Louis Science Center came to an end Monday morning. It will take about six weeks to clear up the area and plans for the next exhibit remain under discussion.

Science Center president Bert Vescolani says the new exhibit will feature the area's strengths,"Celebrate what the region does really well and some of the things that are special about this region. We are fortunate to have such a huge science, technology, engineering, math community, so we've got a lot of content and a lot of resources to work with."

It took less than ten minutes to deflate the Explorer Dome, which opened in 1997 as a temporary exhibit space.
